Oxford, UK – 1 November 2023 – Oxford Science Enterprises (OSE) today announces the appointments of Katherine Ward and Nate Notwell as Entrepreneurs-in-Residence (EIR) focused on HealthTech.
OSE attracts experienced founders and proven leaders to Oxford through its Entrepreneurs-in-Residence programme, partnering with them to identify and ultimately co-found new ventures. The programme provides access to Oxford’s world-class science, capital and a clear path to spinout. This approach has already led to the creation of pioneering companies including neurology care platform Neu Health, photonic chip company Salience Labs, and neuromodulation company Amber Therapeutics.
Heather Roxborough, Senior Partner and Head of HealthTech at OSE, said:
“I am delighted to welcome Katherine and Nate to our team. Their decades of experience in healthcare, developing and commercialising innovative technologies across multiple markets, will greatly benefit OSE as we continue to drive the creation of compelling new HealthTech ventures.”
Katherine Ward, Entrepreneur-in-Residence, HealthTech
Katherine has over 30 years’ experience in the healthcare sector, with expertise in growth and business development, strategy, general management, and people leadership.
Most recently she spent six years at Healthy.io, where as Chief Commercial Officer she built the team and secured a multi-million-pound with the UK National Health Service (NHS) for home-based testing, which underpinned the company’s successful Series C round.
Previously, Katherine served as Chief Growth Officer at Optum International, a division of UnitedHealth, and held other senior executive roles across its global business. She also spent 15 years in senior roles within the NHS.
Nate Notwell, Entrepreneur-in-Residence, HealthTech
Nate joins OSE from Kenvue (formerly Johnson & Johnson Consumer Health), where he spent nearly 20 years in commercial leadership roles, most recently leading digital capability acceleration for the North American business.
He previously led global marketing and innovation teams across multiple categories within Johnson & Johnson’s $6 billion Global OTC (over-the-counter) business.
OSE’s HealthTech team is focused on creating companies in AI imaging, big data analytics, digital pharma services, tech-enabled care delivery, smart diagnostics, next-generation medical devices and life science tools – innovations that will impact not only patients’ lives but entire healthcare systems.
