Waynflete Professor of Chemistry, Founder, Fluorok
Professor Véronique Gouverneur is the Waynflete Professor of Chemistry at Magdalen College, University of Oxford, and co‑founder of the Oxford Science Enterprises‑backed spin‑out FluoRok, which commercialises her breakthrough HF‑free fluorochemical process.
She is recognised internationally for sustainable organofluorine chemistry, especially methods to transform calcium fluoride into fluorochemicals without hazardous hydrogen fluoride. Fluorochemicals are essential for a range of industries including drug discovery, agriculture and material sciences.
Her independent research career began in 1998 at Oxford, where she was promoted to professor in 2008. With more than 240 peer‑reviewed publications and 15 patents to her name, she achieved election to the Royal Society in 2019, won the ACS Arthur C. Cope Award in 2022 and earned membership of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences in 2025.
